Seasonal Séance : Autumnal Equinox,
released October 20, 2020
This soundscape piece features field recordings of fire, owls, rain, thunder and improvised musical rituals by the Sweet Wreath collective to set a mood for the progression of autumn and act as an offering to the spirits. You will hear many harps, bells, a theremin, quica ("weaka"), cow bones and even a rusty sickle being played.
The title refers to an Irish druid god named Muck Olla. Peasants used to parade in masks from house to house asking for offerings for Muck Olla in the form of cakes, eggs, or vegetables. The verses they recited described damage Muck Olla would do to a farmer's house or barn if the farmer refused to give something. This was an early form of what eventually became trick or treating.
